About Sam

Writer. Coach. Storyteller.

Samantha Dorr was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, with her older sister and step-siblings. When she was little, she made up songs about nonsense, wrote poetry on scraps of paper, and drew pictures of her favorite TV characters. As she grew, this creativity sparked many short tales, poems, and spun stories among friends. Her first, great decision as a young adult was choosing to study creative writing at James Madison University where she also met her longtime love, David - her second, great decision. The couple moved to Richmond, Virginia, where Sam spent fifteen years in the nonprofit sector leading adult education, communications, operations, and programming. In 2020, Sam left a rewarding career during the pandemic to care for her two boys and shepherd her father’s healthcare. Now, she’s telling her stories and helping others do the same. Her most patient listener is her two-legged cat, Newt.
